How to Load a Moving Truck or POD for Maximum Space and Safety
Improper loading is one of the top reasons people end up with broken furniture or damaged boxes. Here’s how to load your moving truck or POD like a pro.
1. Create a Solid Base Layer
Start with your heaviest, sturdiest items:
Mattresses and box springs
Dressers
Sofas and sectionals
Washer/Dryer or appliances
TV stands and entertainment units
These should go against the walls of the truck or POD, standing vertically whenever possible to save floor space.
2. Stack Boxes by Weight
Once your base is in:
Load heaviest boxes next, followed by medium, then light.
Keep fragile items and glassware boxes on top—never at the bottom.
Fill empty spaces with pillows, blankets, or soft bags to prevent shifting.
3. Stabilize Each Section
Use ratchet straps or cargo bars to create vertical "walls" at regular intervals.
This prevents boxes from tipping during transport.
Avoid placing boxes or furniture at an angle—they will shift when driving.
4. Load Last = Unload First
Finish with items you’ll need right away:
Bedding
Tool kits
Toilet paper, snacks, clothes, etc.
Store these near the back of the truck or POD door for easy access.
